Watch "Zach & Abi Sak jumping" on YouTube
It's been a whole weekend of 30 degree weather and for the first time I couldn't convince the kids to go outside to play. This was the result.

Answers for Abi

While I realize I have completely failed to post about our 2 1/2 week trip to Minnesota over Christmas (which was great even with the flu!), I did want to share our news we have regarding Abi. Many of you know of her recurring fevers and the doctoring we've been doing as a result. We finally have solid answers! Praise the Lord!

This week, Abi met "her kid doctor" Dr. Nolt at Doernbecher's Childrens Hospital at OHSU. As we discussed Abi's fevers and the fever log we've kept, Dr. Nolt was smiling and even said, "You're making this so easy."  She explained that Abi is classic case periodic fever, apthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, adenitis syndrome (PFAPA) which eased our concerns of more serious causes of the fever. Abi was a total rockstar for the exam. Dr. Nolt smiled and said she was delightfully precocious as she shook her hand and said good-bye.

What this means for Steven and I is we have a bit more to pray about and make a decision. Depending on what study you read, tonsillectomy cures this syndrome. Some studies say 30%, 80% and even 100%. It was hands down the recommendation from Dr. Nolt. Another option is to give Abi prednisone with each onset though there tends to be a increase in frequency with that option.  We did see that the one time Abi received the steriod; the fever came back on in 3 wks after that episode. Why not just ride it out? Well, she may not outgrow the syndrome until the age of 10+. She could outgrow it tomorrow.

So, its not the end of the road for this journey, but it is a major step forward. And as we continue walking this life, I'm reminded that regardless of the news, of the mood, of the cost... whatever it is, we are here to glorify our heavenly Father. He walks with us every step of our journey and carries us when needed.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
